Re-Do’s & CMBS

by Pam Banegas

It feels like Hollywood runs out of creativity juice from time to time and resorts to remakes or a re-do! The question is this: is the re-do better than the first one? Was the Warren Beatty/Annette Benning re-do of An Affair to Remember better than the Cary Grant/Deborah Kerr version? What about Karate Kid…Total Recall…The Thing…Red Dawn…King Kong??? There could be arguments which lean toward the original version and arguments which lean toward the re-do. Now, there’s an all-female version of Ghostbusters. Will it be better than the original? There are those who are doing their best to champion it and promoting how much better it will be. Then, there are those who know, deep down, there is no way it’s going to be better. Is it all based on opinion only…or are facts involved?

CMBS 1.0, then CMBS 2.0, and now we’re hearing about CMBS 3.0!!! Really??? Has anything really changed between the versions? Is each one a simple re-do of the first with just with a “cast” change? Or, has the “story-line” actually been changed, updated to be more current, more relevant? OR, better yet, are there those of us who know, deep down, there is absolutely nothing better being offered; it’s just “costumed” differently?
